Discover with us the true nature reserve that Mallorca is: the Tramuntana Mountains, the Dragonera Island, the Albufera natural park...
What is the first image that springs to mind when you read or hear the name Mallorca? Yes indeed: Mallorca is sun and sea, but the island offers more, so much more than that. From its delicious food to its lively nightlife via – of course – its spectacular nature. Take note, because in this post we are going on a tour of the true nature reserve that Mallorca is, guiding you through the best natural nooks on the island.
Table of contents
Serra de Tramuntana
Our first stop on the list is one of the most amazing places you'll find on Mallorca. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range has been declared a World Heritage Site and offers you some of the most beautiful villages on the island as well as wonderful hikes that combine steep mountain sides and long paths with beautiful cliffs and coves. It's the ideal spot for hiking fans, or trail runners. The Mallorcan mountains are a feast for the senses at any time of the year.
- The natural monument Torrent de Pareis
If you're staying at our Zafiro Palace Andratx, Zafiro Palace Palmanova or Zafiro Palmanova, you're in the perfect location for a complete tour of the mountains: from the famous Puig de Galatzó to the dreamily beautiful Cape Formentor. Along the route, don't forget to visit the natural monument Torrent de Pareis: one of the most beautiful coves on Mallorca, also known as Sa Calobra.
Mallorcan natural parks
Mallorca's nature is very diverse, both in terms of terrain and in terms of landscape. We mentioned the beautiful mountains, and now we are talking about another part of Mallorca as a natural reserve: the islets, the plains and the wetlands. In fact, the island has a total of five natural parks from north to south and from east to west. Each one of them offers a perfect example of each area’s flora and fauna.
- Sa Dragonera Island
Opposite the coast of Sant Elm (Andratx) lies the island Sa Dragonera, and the islets Mitjana, Es Calafats and Pantaleu. They all make up this natural park. To visit the park, there are guided tours organised including boat transfer from Sant Elm. If you would like to be one of its more adventurous visitors you can make the crossing to Sa Dragonera in a kayak, which will give you an opportunity to visit its beautiful caves as well.
- Albufera de Mallorca natural park
This is the largest wetland on the island and one Mallorca’s most beautiful natural areas. It’s located in the north, a mere kilometre from our Zafiro Bahía, by Playa de Muro and nine kilometres from Zafiro Palace Alcudia and Zafiro Tropic. Ornithology fans will be able to observe a great variety of fauna on offer, and those who travel with children will have a perfect day in nature to share with family. The trails within the park can be travelled on foot or by bike.
- Península de Llevant natural park
This park is one of the great wonders on Mallorca's north-eastern coast. If you're staying at our Zafiro Cala Mesquida you are a stone's throw from the area, which includes unspoilt coves such as Cala Torta, Cala Estreta and the nature reserves Cap Farrutx and Cap des Freu. Nordic walking, hiking and mountain biking are the most popular activities in the area.
- Mondragó natural park
This large natural area on the east coast harbours some of the most beautiful coves on the island, with that stunning turquoise water: Cala Mondragó, Playa de S’Amarador, Caló des Borgit and Caló d’en Perdiu. Located in the municipality of Santanyí, this place gives you a chance to enjoy the waters of the Mediterranean, but also to see its fields and traditional stone walls. The ideal plan is to drive to the designated car park (near Cala Mondragó or S'Amarador) and from there start your hike on foot.
- Salinas de Es Trenc natural park
Apart from featuring the most famous beach on Mallorca, the natural park Las Salinas de Es Trenc also offers another experience: finding out how sea salt is harvested on the island. If you enter the beach through the town Colonia de Sant Jordi – Ses Salines instead of Ses Covetes, at sunset, you can see an incredible spectacle of colours reflected in the salt flats.
If you can already see yourself visiting these natural paradises found in Mallorca’s nature parks, take a look at our page with hotel offers, book your stay and start planning your routes across the island. If you're a sports lover, take a look at the Zafiro Sports Experience to complete your trip. We look forward to seeing you!
