Mallorca & Menorca Guide

Discover the Sierra de Tramuntana, Sa Calobra and much more

Mallorca is known amongst filmmakers as the ideal place for an outdoor location which means that at any time of the year anytime of the day there are so many things to do and see in Mallorca either on the coast or further inland. As soon as you arrive on the island, you will find a huge range of possible excursions to do in Mallorca, you can choose between excursions of little or no difficulty and excursions requiring a certain amount of previous experience and knowledge. With a world of possibilities to choose from, whether it´s walking, cycling, horseback or sailing you will always find an excursion that allows you to see a corner of the coast or any another place on the island you would like to visit.

If what interests you  is an excursion to discover the nature and landscape of Mallorca, then one of the best suggestions is to visit the natural reserves like the island of Cabrera or the wildlife reserve of S'Albufera, which is  very close to the hotels Zafiro Palace Alcudia and Zafiro Tropic. It is the most extensive wetland area in the Balearic Islands, an ancient lagoon separated from the sea by a cordon of dunes. It is also  perfectly accessible from the hotels Zafiro Mallorca and Zafiro Bahia.

Definitely worth a trip to see. We cannot fail to mention the routes to some of the beaches that have been declared natural areas of special interest in Mallorca, such as Cala Mesquida, with its almost virgin beaches, which are among the best that can be found in Mallorca, and are very close to the Zafiro Cala Mesquida hotel. Mallorca is also rich in natural phenomena, such as Ses Fonts Ufanes, the natural springs that spring from the ground every year just outside the village of Campanet, which is not too far from the Hotel Zafiro Bahía. It can be hiked to in a few hours, as the distances in Mallorca are short; there are also the mythical caves of Mallorca, some on them are on the coast where you can see examples of the origin of classical mythology, home of the gods and demons.

Anyone who makes an excursion in Mallorca to the Torrent de Pareis cannot fail to be impressed by it; it was formed by the water which runs down to Sa Calobra, a natural canyon of several kilometres long that ends in a small cove, which are so common to Mallorca, the photos of the torrent can be seen all over the world as an example of the natural beauty of Mallorca and it is a short trip from the hotel Zafiro Palace de Alcudia. You can also go by boat on a day excursion from the Puerto de Soller if you reserve a place in advance If you prefer excursions with a bit more of the Mallorcan cultural, then we can´t fail to mention Palma, the capital, which is located on the coast and deserves a day on the trip´s calendar to visit, even if it´s only for a few hours, it doesn´t need a whole day.

You can book a boat trip on the bay of Palma de Mallorca, see the views from the sea of all the most emblematic places, such as the Cathedral and Bellver Castle. In the port area, as well as visiting the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca, one of the best examples of the Gothic style, a very pleasant excursion is a stroll through the Gothic and Jewish quarters, soaking up the fascinating past of this beautiful corner of the Mediterranean which is full of history. If you opt for this type of excursion then the Palmanova hotels are the closest, Zafiro Palace Palmanova and Zafiro Palmanova.

The Roman cities of Mallorca, Alcudia and Pollença

Preserve the memory of those peoples who have left their mark on the area throughout the ages and there is also the Sanctuary of Lluc, which throughout the centuries has been a place of spiritual pilgrimage in the Sierra de Tramuntana, it is situated in a forest that the Romans called the sacred forest and it is not too far to visit if you are staying at either the Zafiro Palace Alcudia or the Zafiro Tropic. By making excursions around Mallorca, it is possible to understand the natural and cultural heritage of the island, its traditions and customs and the traditional festivals that are related to agriculture and the wine harvest, some extraordinary moments that can be experienced on this Mediterranean island. Each excursion should be made at least once if not more and all of them can be reached from anywhere in Mallorca. The possibilities of excursions in Mallorca range from a day in the cosmopolitan city of Palma to trips to the wonderful mountain and coastal villages and of course, not forgetting its historical legacy, craftsmanship and living culture.
