Cala'n Bosch

The beach of Cala'n Bosch, which is a 15-minute walk from the hotel Zafiro Menorca is situated in the South-West of Menorca, it boasts a wonderful wide sandy Beach with very clean water ideal for families and visitors who want a safe beach and a one that  is close by. The Marina of Cala'n Bosch, is known as 'the Lake' for its calm waters, has moorings for pleasure craft and fishing boats, it also  has a lovely upbeat atmosphere especially at night when it is lovely to stroll around and perhaps enjoy a lovely meal in one of the many good restaurant there. The urbanisation Cala’n Bosch has everything  service you could wish for in Menorca and it is popular with tourists and locals alike  and during the summer months there is a very popular night market.

Stunning coves in the north Cala Pregonda is a natural cove on the north of Menorca  and it is famous throughout the world because it appeared on the album cover of “incantations” by Mike Oldfield, first in 1978 and then again on the  remastered version in 2011. It is actually in the middle of nowhere and to get there is about a 30-minute walk crossing some spectacular landscape with amazing views. The first thing that gets your attention is the contrast between the  clay soil and the  red sands and the steep rocks of the northern coastline. Its waters are deep and clear perfect for swimming or diving with or without equipment.  There is no doubt Cala Pregonda is cove you mustn’t miss if you are visiting Menorca.

Cala Pilar, also in the North  is quite difficult to access as only hikers and boats  can get to  Cala Pilar, which is  why  it is one  of the best kept secrets of Menorca. It is like  Cala Pregonda with its contrasting colours of  red sand and caramel coloured rocks and  rugged terrain, but to reach it is quite a hike as  there are no roads near it but the effort of getting there is worth it as  the scenery  is amazing in fact, you cannot be failed to be moved by the beauty of Cala Pilar.

Cala Macarella

There are still more coves to see in Menorca. Macarella is a  typical  travel book cover beach with fine white sand, turquoise waters and lush vegetation. Calm and clear, Macarella is  a swimmer´s dream along with Macarelleta, Macarella forms one of the most beautiful landscapes in Menorca. The area is part of  in a protected area so there are no buildings of  any type, except for a small bar that is not far from the beach where you can eat. Both  beaches can be accessed from Ciudadela. You can also get to Macarella from Cala Galdana, it is a 40-minute walk through some wonderful scenery.

The small coves of Menorca

Macarelleta is smaller than its big brother and can be found some 15 mins from Macarella, it is very small beach but beautiful it is also a nudist beach and like its big brother its sand is white and fine  with crystalline turquoise waters. Cala Turqueta is a small isolated cove  without  any services located very close to Macarella and  like the  other coves in the south of Menorca the beach is a  fine white sandy one  and the  water, turquoise and crystal clear and above all calm. Cala Turqueta is  just as nature made it  as it has been protected by a spectacular natural environment with abundant pine forests that populate the high cliffs and  has sea bed full of marine wildlife.

Cala Turqueta is certainly a place worth visiting, it is one of the best beaches one can find on the island of Menorca. The beach of Cala Mitjana also is on  the South of Menorca located to the south of Ferreries, between Cala Galdana and Cala Trebalúger, two  other magnificent beaches. It is a  beautiful virgin cove  is known for its waters and transparent sea beds which are great  for snorkelling and diving. Cale Mitjana is about a 20-minute walk from Cala  Galdana.

Beaches and tiny coves

Next to Cala Mitjana is Cala Mitjaneta, a beach with the same natural characteristics and landscape but smaller. The beaches on the South of Menorca don´t have any services so they are ideal for those looking a beach less touristic and more peaceful place where they can be at one with nature and totally relax . The beach of Son Saura is one of the so-called Virgin beaches, located on the South coast of Ciutadella de Menorca. It is a wide beach and offers two large sandy areas bordered by thick pine trees giving shade and freshness. The waters of Son Saura would make the Caribbean envious,  its has beautiful fine white sand, its clear  waters  are a  spectacular  shade of turquoise

To get to Son Saura take the  road of Sant Joan from Ciudadella. As you can see, the beaches of Menorca are a delight for the soul, they are so uplifting as well as been among the best in the Mediterranean. Some of them, such as the Cala Pregonda  and Turqueta Beach are unforgettable so  when  traveling to this beautiful  island it is important to save some time to go and  discover its incredible coast and beaches. It never fails to impress and you will want to go back again and again.
