Discover the most authentic areas and beaches of Menorca with your family

Menorca is considered to be most peaceful of the Balearic Islands, it is also the most easterly of the islands.  Menorca is a World Heritage Site because of its wonderful natural surroundings and what’s more, Menorca offers whoever visits it no matter what time of the year plenty things to see and do; landscapes, nature, culture, history, customs and festivals in its two cities - Mahon and Ciutadella – its pretty villages, hotels, rich gastronomy and beaches and coves which are ranked among the best in the world.

On this small island there is always so much to do and lots of places to visit. Take advantage of the beautiful scenery in Menorca, which is north of Mallorca, by walking along the Camí de Cavalls, the historic path that trails along the coast, people have been walking along this path since the 14th century, and it is one of the best trail paths that one could wish for, passing through Mahon and Ciutadella. The road of Cavalls de Menorca is now a public path which is extremely well preserved and can be ridden along on horseback as well walked. It is the ideal way to discover secluded places of magnificent nature and beauty which are hidden off the track in Menorca and also discover some of the coves and untamed beaches that still exist in the Mediterranean. Another really interesting day out in Menorca is a visit to  the  S'Albufera des Grau, the most unique  natural park in Menorca ,which is closer to Mahon than to Ciutadella, the park  is the emblem of the  island it  was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1993 and  is one of the most unknown regions in Menorca. It has more than 5,000 hectares and here you can find an amazing number of wildlife some of them unique to the island as well as some beautiful plants and vegetation; you can walk round the reserve by taking one of the three paths that run through it.

Menorca is the cradle of the Talaitic culture, which emerged on the island two millennia before Christ and there are many remains of towers, settlements navetas and necropolis which can be still seen today, these open air structures are an amazing sight to behold and are definitely worth visiting. Very close to the hotel Zafiro Menorca, two of the most impressive constructions of this prehistoric period can be found: the nave des Tudons, a funerary monument in the shape of an inverted nave and the Necropolis of Cala Morell, 14 manmade caves excavated from the rocks of Menorca. Other traces of its multicultural past which can be seen in Menorca are the Fortress of La Mola in Mahón, on the east side on Menorca, and across the harbour bay from it is the castle of San Felipe, two military constructions whose origins can traced back to when the British and the French fought for control of the island.

The views across the bay from either construction are amazing and are both well worth visiting In Menorca there coves and beaches that would make the Caribbean  pale with envy such as Cala Blanca or Cala in Bosch both which are just a short walk from the Zafiro Menorca, however to reach some which are even more  spectacular and also again  close to the hotel, such as Cala En Turqueta, Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta you have to walk a little further  because they are  inaccessible by car, but they  are very much worth the extra effort to get there, once you there you will be amazed by the crystal clear waters that await you. On the other hand, travel always does wonders for the palate and Menorca is renowned for its rich gastronomy, it is common to see fresh fish straight from the local waters and fresh produce straight from the garden. The popular lobster stew is the specialty of the taverns and port restaurants and one of the best places certainly to enjoy it is Fornells, a fishing port of pretty white buildings by the sea, situated in the north of Menorca. If you want to party big in Menorca then one of the best festivals in the Balearic Islands is the feast of San Juan which has been celebrated every year since the Middle Ages, the festival of San Juan de Ciutadella is internationally renowned with many visitors coming simply to partake in the festivities, it is festival steeped in tradition which has been preserved with care and rigor, in which the horses are the main stars just as much as the locals.

There are several festivities throughout the summer held in the different towns of Menorca, from north to south and from east to west and theses festivities make Menorca worth visiting again and again. Another way to see a different part of Menorca is to discover what is under its waters. In Menorca you can practice diving at any beach or cove, what other place offers the same thing?  And if you want to discover more there are dives for all levels, both near and far from the coves, the clean and crystalline waters of Menorca offer great visibility and the fauna and flora at the bottom of the water is rich and abundant; there are also a few important ship wrecks to view And you don’t have to be a professional to see some amazing sights under water in Menorca near any beach or some hidden cove on the island all you need is a pair of snorkelling googles and you can see some incredible sights then and if you want to learn more about diving in Menorca then in Mahon or Ciutadella you can rent the right equipment to practice this sport.

One of the most outstanding attractions of Menorca is its mild climate, which means visitors can enjoy this destination at any time of the year. But it is at its best in the summer, it is then that Menorca can be seen in all its splendour, every beach or cove, to the south, north, west, or to the east of this island, allows you to see and enjoy landscapes that are among the best that the Mediterranean has to offer. Menorca is a place not is missed out on in the Balearic Islands. Because Menorca, with its hotels in Mahon, Ciutadella and in the rest of towns and coastal areas, is a rather unique place perhaps the most authentic of all the Balearic Islands so why not consider for your next trip?  Why bother looking for anything else? You will not find a beach or cove in Menorca that is not worth visiting it as the beaches of Menorca that are one of its biggest attractions, but they are not the only attraction Menorca has to offer; it has so much more than just beaches so why not come and find out what it has to offer you and your family?
