The seventeenth edition of Zafiro Palma Marathon will be the most sustainable of their events to date and will be a model in environmental management for other events of this type.  The organisation is dedicated to reducing emissions into the atmosphere and waste of energy, water, plastic and paper and committed to the use of recycled materials.

Among other measures, recycled materials will be used to make the athletes´ bags and the ribbons for the finishers´ medals; paper cups will be used for the isotonic drinks at aid stations; waste management and separation on the course and at the event will be strengthened and developed; water waste will be decreased (using chemical toilets); use of electricity and paper will be reduced; and there will be free public transport for participants on the day of the race to avoid the use of private and rented cars.

Zafiro Hotels, title sponsor of the event, shares and supports this vision and also the fact that new measures are being taken. “Responsible management of resources is no longer an option, it is a real need at a global scale. Recycled plastic bottles T-shirts

The official t-shirt, made by 42krunning brand, is made from polyester which is entirely produced from recycled plastic bottles. Each shirt is made of 20, 500ml plastic bottles. 

In addition to giving a new life and purpose to plastic bottles, this is also  an important move towards sustainability, reducing petroleum consumption (a non-renewable raw material).  But above all, since extraction, processing and transportation of the petroleum is not required there is a significant saving of energy.  This in turn considerably reduces the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere, one of the main causes of global warming.

The Zafiro Palma Marathon will continue to be one of the most important sports events  on the Balearic Islands, with the number of runners estimated at 10.000 over the various distances: 10, 21 and 42 kilometres.

The Zafiro Palma Marathon course will be the same as past years; a totally urban course which passes the most interesting tourist attractions of the city, showing the marathon runners all the main landmarks and famous streets during their 42.195 metre run route.  A stunning and interesting course is guaranteed - an ideal way for the runners to enjoy this city which is spectacular in every way.
