    Calvia lies at the foot of the Sierra de Tramuntana and has over 50 km of Mediterranean coastline with so much  to see; cliffs, islets, coves and white sandy beaches with turquoise waters, and there still exists  numerous defence towers from the days when Calvia needed to protect itself from pirates. The municipality of Calvià is in the western part of Mallorca the  main areas are Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponsa, Portals and Peguera.


    Calvià village was founded 2000 years ago long before its main areas ever existed. The municipality of Calvià has preserved many  remnants  from its past and there some archaeological sites which  you can visit where you will find  lots of information to explain the history of the site. Besides going to the beach in the daytime and at night  there are many other things to do and see in Calvià and  it is easy to check on what is happening in and around the area by asking at any tourist information point. So, anyone visiting Calvià should  have no excuses to be bored. The Local map of Calvià  shows numerous routes for hikers and mountain bikers of varying of difficulty and experience. The Sierra de Tramuntana, declared a world heritage by UNESCO, is so rich and diverse;  its natural flora is the envy of the Botanical Garden of Paris  and an excursion  to the Sierra de Tramuntana is always a very energizing  and rewarding experience.


    The tourist information points  are  filled with pamphlets, information and maps to make it easy for tourists visiting Calvià to discover their surroundings, the challenge to find every beach and corner of the region has been accepted many times and each time the visitors are amazed by the wealth of things to discover in Calvià. For those seeking something a bit more  accessible than walking in the middle of the mountains  then there  is a wide boulevard  known as the  Calvià avenue with a bike lane next to which completely surrounds Calvià, it connects you to beaches, coves and small ports as well as some lovely rural walks, the boulevard is illuminated at night for tourists wishing to take a stroll  after dinner. It is ideal for jogging, walking, roller skating or scootering in addition playgrounds are dotted all the way round, so it is  a perfect for the whole family. If you are a  lover of the sea then Calvià is the perfect destination, from bathers to sailors you will find in Calvià, Santa Ponsa, Palmanova, Magaluf and Peguera, a world of possibilities at your fingertips, you can soak up  the sun like a lizard and  then take a swim to cool off or opt for something a little more active, like snorkeling, paddle surfing, surfing and windsurfing and jet-ski. It is also possible to rent speedboats, sailing boats or  learn and practice diving in clear waters with sea beds filled of fauna and flora or  visit shipwrecks and underwater caves or perhaps take a trip to the island of Dragonera...


    There are endless possibilities for both the energetic and slightly lazier  visitor to Calvià. Being never too far away from the prefect beach to swim   is very important for  the tourist who comes on holiday to Calvià. The beaches of Santa Ponsa, Peguera, Portals, Palmanova and Magaluf are all blue flag beaches, some of the many that exist in Mallorca, granted by the Foundation of environmental education for the quality of water, cleanliness, safely and access for all.



    Tennis is another popular activity in  Calvià, you can play during the day or at night there are plenty of courts to choose from and some have activities on for children. Court hire isn't too expensive and most of the tennis clubs in Calvià have websites so you check their availability and book a court in advance. All the local tourist information points have information about the local courts available  also some hotels have their  own courts which are open to the public. For children and younger adults there is a a range of interesting  leisure activities in Calvià: water parks with giant water slides and spectacular swimming pools, or  become an Explorer or an adventurer at a local theme park you will find a number of theme parks in Santa Ponsa very near to the Zafiro Rey don Jaime and in Palmanova, next to the  Zafiro Palace Palmanova y Zafiro Palmanova. All of these hotels are very close to Palma, the capital of Mallorca, which is well worth a visit to discover all its  hidden  charms and secrets. In the municipality of Calvià, has a  mild climate throughout the year and  because its landscape is  evergreen it means that that it is ideal for a round of golf.  There are clubs to suit all players from amateurs to professionals, three of the best golf courses of Mallorca are  in Calvià: Golf Santa Ponsa in Santa Ponsa, Bendinat Golf Club and the Golf de Poniente in Peguera. For  many years  these golf courses have been attracting players because of their serene landscape, which is very pleasing to the eye and also because of the first-class service they provide.
