Once again this year we have had the pleasure of sharing a few days in Mallorca with the Peter Pan Foundation, a Dutch organisation that arranges group trips for children and youngsters with chronic diseases or physical disabilities. This year, the Zafiro Can Picafort welcomed a group of children aged between 12 and 16 suffering from Crohn's disease, although that didn’t stop them enjoying a few memorable days in Mallorca having fun, making friends with kids in similar situations and taking a short break from the reality of their illness.

This is one of the favourite events in the whole year for all of us here at Zafiro Hotels. Especially when we hear something like, "Mallorca is an amazing island with all the ingredients for a perfect vacation: sun, beaches, charming villages, culture and so much fun!"

We have been talking with the coordinator of the Peter Pan group, Linda Gillisen, to find out more about how the trip was an enriching experience for the children.

What makes Mallorca such an attractive destination for travel with children?

Mallorca has everything. Sun, beaches, great attractions such as water parks, the zoo, the caves, the Aquarium ... you could spend more than a month here doing different activities every day without ever getting bored. Want or need something? No problem, Mallorca has it all.

What activity did the kids enjoy most?

They really enjoyed the "Adventure Challenge" activities programme. We had a great day full of activities such as kayaking, a visit to a sea cave, snorkelling... They loved all the activities, especially because they felt so proud when they had finished them.

They also liked the catamaran trip and had a great time just chilling out on deck, sunbathing, snorkelling and enjoying the great atmosphere for making friends, not to mention the amazing barbecue they made for us!

What is the most rewarding thing about this type of trip?

Both for us and for the kids, the best thing has to be all the friends you make. The kids realise they are not alone in their fight against their disease, taking on the challenge as a group and also having a really great time. That's why we can never thank all our sponsors enough for making these trips possible. Once again, thank you so, so much!

What do you like most about Zafiro Hotels?

The most remarkable thing for us is the friendliness and flexibility of the Zafiro team. Bear in mind that we were a group of around thirty people, including teenagers who can be a bit hard to handle at times, but that was never the case for the Zafiro team.

Our group of kids from 12 to 16 years of age have had the journey of a lifetime. The theme party we had last Thursday would never have been possible without the support of Zafiro Hotels, and the hotel pool and slides were things that every child dreams about!

At Zafiro Hotels we are delighted to have had the group with us at the Zafiro Can Picafort for a few days and had the chance to make a small contribution to this lovely cause.

The kids from the Peter Pan Foundation group return home with memories of an amazing experience and new friends, leaving us with the memory of the huge smiles on their faces over the last few days.
