The best ways to say goodbye to summer in Mallorca
Mallorca is one of those rare places where summer never truly feels over. Even as September appears on the calendar and routine begins to return, the island still offers countless moments to savour its final glow — something Maria and Antonia Plomer, owners of Zafiro Hotels, know better than anyone. Deeply connected to their land, they love sharing the corners and experiences that have shaped their own lives.
Experts in Mallorca’s hidden gems and the rhythms of the island, they reveal their favourite ways to make the most of these last warm weeks in Mallorca — a time they consider one of the most beautiful of the year.
Their selection brings together places and experiences for every kind of traveller, each rooted in their personal story and offering a more intimate, authentic way to discover Mallorca. Because, as they remind us, “the best memories we have of our lives aren’t kept in photos, they’re kept in our hearts".

Losing yourself in Palma
Palma is where María and Antonia always meet — a city they never tire of rediscovering. As summer softens, it becomes the perfect place to pair beach mornings with slow strolls through historic streets, museums, exclusive boutiques and artisan workshops. Here, treasures like handbags crafted from traditional llengües fabric or hand‑thrown Mallorcan ceramics appear around every corner
And of course, there’s always time to savour Mediterranean dishes or linger over a coffee on a sunlit square, surrounded by laughter and long conversations. For the Plomer sisters, Palma is one of those cities where there is always so much to do.
What the Plomer sisters consider essential:
- Wander aimlessly through Palma’s cobbled streets, stroll along Jaume III Avenue, and lose yourself among the historic façades of Passeig des Born, discovering artisan shops like TerraCuita or the perfume atelier Viti Vinci.
- Visit the Mercat de l’Olivar to immerse yourself in local flavours, colours and aromas — from fruit and vegetables to cheeses, fish and traditional Mallorcan sausages.
- Treat yourself to something sweet at Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo — an ice cream, an ensaimada, a granita, a potato coca or a quarto. For the sisters, it’s a place that instantly brings back childhood memories.
- Spend an afternoon at the Miró Mallorca Foundation Museum for a dose of culture and inspiration.
- End the day by the sea at Assaona GastroBeach Club Palma, watching the sun melt into the horizon.
Explore the Mediterranean from Andratx
Port d’Andratx, Camp de Mar, Puerto Portals, Port Adriano, Sant Elm… For the Plomer sisters, the southwest coast is a map of summer memories — a place they still return to when they want to slow down before routine begins again.
Their favourite plan? Setting out from Camp de Mar, just moments from Zafiro Palace Andratx, aboard a traditional Mallorcan llaüt, just as they did with their parents when they were young. From the hotel itself, you can arrange this experience to explore hidden coves and secret corners, or join Sea Explorers — an educational adventure created with the Palma Aquarium Foundation and the CSIC, where families learn, investigate and contribute to protecting the Mediterranean together.
Once back on land, the sisters recommend wandering through Puerto Portals — browsing boutiques, relaxing on terraces, discovering restaurants — or exploring the exclusive marina of Port Adriano, designed by renowned French architect Philippe Starck.
What the Plomer sisters consider essential:
- A long, leisurely lunch or dinner at Flanigan in Puerto Portals.
- Visiting fashion and jewellery boutiques such as Room One in Port Adriano.
- Ending the day at Nikki Beach Club or UM Beach House Portals
Tour the Serra de Tramuntana mountains
As summer begins to fade, there’s something irresistible about trading the sea breeze for mountain air — even if only for a few hours. For María and Antonia, there is no place more perfect for this shift than the Serra de Tramuntana, Mallorca’s UNESCO World Heritage treasure.
It’s a landscape woven into the Plomer sisters’ own story: a privileged setting where they reconnect with nature, enjoy outdoor sports, revisit beloved villages and soak in the island’s raw, timeless beauty.
What the Plomer sisters consider essential:
- Stroll through mountain villages like Deià, Valldemossa, Fornalutx or Estellencs — cobbled streets, stone houses and sunlit squares that capture Mallorca’s soul.
- Hike between Sant Elm and La Trapa for sweeping views and quiet trails.
- Cycle or wander through the wetlands of Parc S’Albufera, where nature slows to its own rhythm.
- Visit Son Marroig in Deià, once the Mallorcan residence of Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria — a place where history and landscape meet.
- Savour the cuisine at Bens d’Avall in Deià, where traditional flavours and contemporary creativity come together above the sea.
- And of course, end the day with one of those warm, golden September sunsets that leave you speechless — ideally from the Formentor Lighthouse, just as the sisters have done countless times.
Enjoy a final dip in the north of Mallorca
For the Plomer sisters, the north of Mallorca is the ultimate place to bid farewell to summer — the coastline where they grew up, and where their most cherished memories still live. From the Bay of Pollença to the Bay of Alcúdia, this stretch of island is a mosaic of postcard‑perfect coves, long ribbons of white sand, crystal‑clear waters and landscapes that take them straight back to the tender moments of their childhood.
What the Plomer sisters consider essential:
- A sun‑soaked morning at Playa de Muro, recognised as one of Europe’s finest beaches.
- A cultural day trip combining the medieval walls and Roman city of Pollentia in Alcúdia with the Calvari steps and Plaza Mayor in Pollença.
- Discovering Mallorca’s textile heritage at Teixits Vicens in Pollença — a world of hand‑crafted fabrics, bags and traditional designs.
- Ending the day at Numa Beach Club, letting the immensity of the Mediterranean unfold before you.
For the sisters, the north is also the perfect place to savour Mallorca’s most authentic flavours. They recommend stopping at Bodega Can Axartell in Pollença — a beautiful country estate surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and forest — and finishing with Mediterranean cuisine at one of their favourite restaurants in the area, such as the Bistró del Jardín in Port d’Alcúdia.
It’s clear that summer in Mallorca doesn’t disappear when September arrives. The island keeps offering moments — and many more — that invite you to slow down, explore, and create new memories. Maria and Antonia share their favourite ways to enjoy this magical time of year in their guide “Hidden gems of Mallorca, a journey to the heart of the island", a very special gift available for guests staying in the Zafiro Club at Zafiro Palace Andratx and Zafiro Palace Palmanova, and also the Boutique Collection hotels (Son Sabater by Zafiro and Can Ribera by Zafiro).
Because Mallorca always invites you to keep discovering — and September is one of the most perfect moments to do so.
