The 3 top natural attractions to visit in Mallorca with kids

Mallorca & Menorca Guide

When planning a family holiday in Mallorca, it’s easy to picture long beach days, sandcastles, crystal‑clear waters and sun‑soaked afternoons. But just a short distance from the coast, the island reveals another world — natural areas where fun, discovery and learning come together to offer little explorers a different kind of adventure.

These are activities that awaken children’s spirit of adventure: following forest trails, spotting new plants, marvelling at wildlife, and learning — almost without noticing — to care for and respect the environment.

If you are staying at Zafiro Hotels, many of these parks and natural areas are just moments from your hotel, perfect for a spontaneous escape whenever you feel like changing the pace. Take note: these are the natural attractions we recommend you don’t miss with your children.

A new setting for the family

Children are always ready to keep discovering — their curiosity never really switches off. And sometimes, feeding that curiosity is as simple as changing the scenery: stepping away, just for a moment, from swimming pools, water games, handicrafts and all the activities they adore, and venturing instead into natural spaces and parks.

Whether for a few hours, a morning or a full day, nature becomes the perfect playground for exploration — a place to investigate, to spend time together as a family, and to create some of the most meaningful memories of the holiday.

S'Albufera de Mallorca Nature Park

The s’Albufera Nature Park is one of Mallorca’s most rewarding family excursions — a true paradise for explorers of every age. Set within the Bay of Alcúdia, it is the largest and most important wetland in the Balearic Islands: a vast, ever‑changing mosaic of reedbeds, canals, lagoons, marshes and dunes that surprises at every turn.

Here, every walk becomes a chance to discover something new: a heron lifting into flight, turtles sunning themselves on a log, ducks foraging among the reeds, dragonflies and butterflies skimming the water… and, with a little luck, a group of flamingos preening their feathers during spring or autumn migration.

The park features four easy, almost entirely flat, well‑signposted routes, making it wonderfully accessible for children. Along the way, several observatories offer the perfect vantage point to watch birds in their natural habitat without disturbing them, while information panels help young explorers learn more about this unique ecosystem.

If you visit s'Albufera with kids…

We recommend choosing the sa Roca trail — the most accessible and family‑friendly section of the park. It’s an easy 900‑metre walk, perfect for little explorers, and takes around an hour and a half including stops at the bird observatories. If your children are older or teenagers and you prefer to explore by bike, the Es Colombars trail is ideal. It’s roughly 1.5 km long and includes authorised cycling sections, making it a fun and active way to discover the wetlands.

The park in figures

  • 2,036 hectares of protected natural landscape.
  • Declared a Nature Park in 1988. Home to five different protection categories.
  • More than 300 bird species observed throughout the year.
  • Over 10,000 birds winter here.
  • Wildlife shifts with the seasons and migrations.
  • More than 500 invertebrate species, plus a rich diversity of reptiles, amphibians and fish.

Useful tips

  • Ideal for children from age 3.
  • The park sits between Muro and Sa Pobla.
  • Entry is free, accessed from the Ma‑12 Alcúdia–Artà road, near the Puente de los Ingleses in Playa de Muro.
  • Access requires requesting a permit on the same day at the Visitor Centre, located one kilometre from the parking area. Open from 9am to 4pm year‑round (closed for Christmas and New Year).
  • The best times to visit are early morning and late afternoon, when wildlife is most active.
  • Bring your own food and drinks — there are no shops or cafés inside the park.
  • Restrooms are available at the entrance.
  • A hat, sunscreen and mosquito repellent are recommended. And of course, bring a camera to capture its beautiful landscapes.

From your Zafiro hotel

This natural treasure lies just moments from several Zafiro hotels: just 5 minutes from Zafiro Bahía, 10 minutes from Zafiro Palace Alcudia, Zafiro Tropic and Zafiro Can Picafort, and 15 minutes from Zafiro Mallorca.

It’s the perfect excursion to combine with a morning at the beach or an afternoon by the pool, before returning to the hotel to enjoy the family activities prepared by the entertainment team.

Serra de Tramuntana mountains

The Serra de Tramuntana is the perfect natural playground for the youngest members of the family — a privileged Mediterranean landscape of forests, reservoirs, viewpoints, stone‑built villages and gentle trails made for exploring at a child’s pace.

Here, little adventurers can spend hours searching for mountain goats, listening to birdsong, enjoying a picnic beneath holm oaks and olive trees, following easy trails, stopping at recreational areas or discovering postcard‑worthy villages such as Valldemossa, Deià or Fornalutx.

If you're going with kids…

This vast natural area offers endless possibilities, but if it’s your first time visiting the Serra with kids, these are the plans we recommend:

  • Cúber Reservoir: a very easy, flat circular route of around 4 km. One of the most enjoyable family excursions in the Tramuntana, with spectacular views as you walk around the reservoir framed by mountains.
  • Mirador de ses Barques: ideal for younger children who tire quickly. Easily accessible by car and offering an unforgettable panoramic view over the Mediterranean and the Sóller valley.
  • Lluc Forest and Monastery: perfect for a quiet family morning, with easy paths shaded by holm oaks and a visit to one of Mallorca’s most historic and imposing monasteries.
  • A gentle route through the cobbled streets, peaceful squares and viewpoints of Valldemossa — with an ice cream or a potato cake as a sweet pause before continuing your discovery.

La Serra in figures

  • Approximately 63,000 hectares, stretching 90 km from Andratx to Cap de Formentor.
  • Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, in the Cultural Landscape category.
  • Extends across 20 municipalities in Mallorca.

Useful tips

  • Ideal for families with children of all ages, and perfect for introducing little ones to hiking. A dream setting for photography lovers.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and warm clothing if heading to higher viewpoints.
  • Respect marked trails.
  • Do not leave food scraps or waste.

From your Zafiro hotel

This iconic natural area lies just over 40 minutes from Zafiro Mallorca and Zafiro Bahía, and around one hour from Zafiro Cala Mesquida, Zafiro Palace Andratx, Zafiro Palace Alcudia and Zafiro Palace Palmanova, depending on the specific area you choose to explore. We recommend dedicating a full day to this excursion to enjoy it at a leisurely, family‑friendly pace.

Mallorca

Peninsula de Levante Nature Park

The Peninsula de Llevant Nature Park, in Mallorca’s northeast, is a place that surprises both adults and children. It’s the perfect setting to discover the island’s wildest side as a family — wandering along gentle paths shaded by pines and holm oaks, spotting animals in their natural habitat, and reaching untouched coves with crystal‑clear waters.

If you're going with kids

The park offers numerous marked trails of different lengths and difficulty, all suitable for families. If it’s your first visit with kids, we recommend:

  • Font de Penya Roja: ideal for younger children. A simple 1 km walk, around 15 minutes, perfect as a first nature excursion.
  • Volta als Establits de s'Alqueria Vella: great for older children. Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, with fantastic views over the Betlem hermitage and the Bay of Alcúdia.
  • The natural coves of Sa Font Celada or Cala Mitjana are perfect for combining nature and beach, and for relaxing or swimming after your walk.

The park in figures

  • This protected natural area occupies more than 17,000 hectares.
  • Home to over 500 plant species, many unique to the Mediterranean.
  • More than 30 walking routes, adapted to different levels.
  • Access via the Artà road, heading toward the Betlem hermitage (MA‑3333), turning right at kilometre 4.700.

Useful tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring food.
  • Bring binoculars — birdwatching makes the adventure even more exciting for children.
  • Respect marked trails.
  • Observe wildlife without interfering with its natural habitat.

From your Zafiro hotel

This natural wonder lies just 15 minutes from Zafiro Cala Mesquida and around 40 minutes from Zafiro Mallorca, Zafiro Bahía, Zafiro Tropic, Zafiro Palace Alcudia and Zafiro Can Picafort. It’s an ideal choice for a full day — or a morning — immersed in nature.

More nature parks

Mallorca offers countless ways to enjoy nature with the family:

  • Cabrera Maritime-Terrestrial National Park: a wonderful boat adventure departing from Colònia de Sant Jordi, in the south of the island. Once in Cabrera, you can visit the castle, spot fish in transparent waters, swim in pristine coves and follow very easy walking paths.
  • Mondragó Natural Park in Santanyí: with five gentle routes through pine forests, dunes and wetlands. And to finish, the perfect extra: a swim at S’Amarador or Cala Mondragó, two of the most beautiful beaches in the area.

And what if your holiday is in Menorca?

Menorca is also a natural paradise worth discovering with children. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993, the island offers numerous family‑friendly natural spaces.

If you’re staying at Zafiro Menorca, you can’t miss the s’Albufera des Grau and Sa Gola Nature Park — a circular, low‑difficulty trail marked in blue, very easy to walk and running alongside the water. The route takes around 45 minutes and begins at the parking area at the entrance to Es Grau, ending at its family‑friendly beach with shallow, calm waters.

Along the way, children will discover an old stone bridge with water sluice gates, water birds and the characteristic vegetation of the area’s dunes.
