Wonders of the seabed in Mallorca and Menorca

Mallorca & Menorca Guide

Our oceans are the lungs of our planet, and it is the responsibility of each and every one of to make sure we take the greatest care of them. That’s why we’re joining in the celebrations for World Oceans Day, and why we would like to pay a little tribute to the beloved Mediterranean Sea that surrounds the Balearic Islands. Warm, crystal-clear waters with intense shades of blue and turquoise and a fascinating underwater world just waiting to be discovered.

This post tells you more about some of the wonders that await you, and to make the experience even better we are also offering a prize draw for 4 tickets for Palma Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in Europe with more than 8,000 animals. A visit that both our older and younger guests will really love. Read on and join in!

The seabed in Mallorca and Menorca

Discovering the seabed off the coast of Mallorca and Menorca, diving below the surface and discovering a wonderful new world is also a way of raising awareness about its importance and fragility.

The diversity of the seabed around the Balearic Islands is emphasised by its calm waters, their unique colours and enviable transparency. Dive into the waters around Mallorca and Menorca and discover an incredible seabed and underwater caves, diving in shallow waters or nature reserves.

There are many companies available offering lots of different types of diving experiences. There are certain areas that are especially recommended depending on your experience and also for beginners, and at Zafiro Hotels we can help you choose the one that’s best for you.

Groupers, tunas and barracudas off the south-west coast of Mallorca

Only 15 km from the Zafiro Palace Andratx Hotel is one of the best areas in Mallorca for diving. The surroundings are home to two large marine reserves that are perfect for diving, extending out to sea about 200 metres from the coast: the Isla Malgrats Marine Reserve and the Toro Marine Reserve.

The abundant marine life means you’ll be accompanied on your dive by numerous Mediterranean species: grouper, pompano, tuna, barracuda, triggerfish ... sometimes you can also get to see pelagic fish such as manta rays.

A little-known paradise in Menorca

The waters off the coast of Menorca are the perfect place for anyone who loves diving. If this is your first time, you’ll be hooked for life! Night dives, underwater caves, shipwrecks, marine reserves ... the possibilities are endless and always offered by specialist centres with safety guarantees.

One of the most impressive dives for divers of all levels is the Llosa del Patró Pere near the Cavalleria Lighthouse in the north of the island. You’ll be amazed by the variety of fish, including barracudas, meagres and groupers of all sizes. The dive takes you through an area with spectacular seascapes, an arch of about 10 metres in diameter, a narrow tunnel and two vertical “walls” between which you can see spectacular backlighting.

At the Zafiro Menorca you will also find all the facilities you need for travelling with family or friends. This apartment complex is located only 8km from Ciutadella and guarantees both peaceful rest and endless fun.

Palma Aquarium: prize draw for 4 tickets

A journey through the different seas and oceans in the world from the Mediterranean to more tropical seas accompanied by more than 8,000 specimens of marine fauna.  If you haven’t ever visited before, Palma Aquarium has to be a mandatory stop on your trip to Mallorca, and you now have the chance to visit for free! Zafiro Hotels is offering 4 tickets (2 adults, 2 children) in a prize draw that can be redeemed at any time for up to a year.

Discover how they live in the water, what they eat, how they behave, and you can even interact with some of them. A great way of raising awareness about how we are responsible for ensuring the oceans survive so we can continue to enjoy all their diversity.
