Cinematic Mallorca
In Mallorca, every landscape feels like a cinematic frame. Golden beaches, crystalline waters, towering cliffs, rugged peaks and storybook villages—all bathed in that distinctive Mediterranean light, which turns every corner into a natural film set.
It’s no wonder the silver screen has long fallen under its spell. For years, directors and producers have turned to Mallorca as the perfect backdrop for their stories. And actors across generations have been captivated by its beauty—from Ava Gardner to Tom Cruise, including Audrey Hepburn, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, the latter now proud residents of the island.
From dramas and comedies to thrillers and big-budget blockbusters, the island continues to inspire the magic of cinema. Mallorca dazzles on screen with the same magnetic charm that captivates locals and travellers alike. Today, we invite you to explore its most iconic film settings—and step into the spotlight as the protagonist of your own island story.

Palma: the island’s most coveted urban film set
The Balearic capital is Mallorca’s leading cinematic muse, accounting for nearly half of the island’s filming days in recent years. Its streets and squares seamlessly blend history and modernity, offering a versatile canvas for every type of series or film.
The historic centre, framed by the majestic Seu—Cathedral of Mallorca, alongside elegant courtyards, cobbled lanes and the lively spirit of Santa Catalina, creates a backdrop rich in character. Add to that the Parc de la Mar, Paseo Marítimo and the Es Baluard area, and you have a setting that radiates a truly Mediterranean and cosmopolitan allure.
You can see it in…
- The Kovak Box (2006), an international thriller filmed in Palma and the surrounding areas.
- The Mallorca Files (2019–2021), a British police series filmed in Palma and other parts of the island.
- La Ruta (2024), which transformed the streets of Palma into the Ibiza of the 1990s.
If you’re staying at the Zafiro Palace Palmanova or Zafiro Palmanova, you'll be only 20 minutes away from discovering this cinematic area of Mallorca. And if you want to find out a little more, make sure you pay a visit to the beautiful viewpoints in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, just half an hour away by car.
Serra de Tramuntana: a cinematic landscape straight from a postcard
Deià, Valldemossa, Sóller… just a few of the jewels nestled within the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, mountains plunge into the Mediterranean’s azure depths, cliffs unveil breathtaking vistas, and storybook landscapes unfold at every turn.
It’s a sublime blend that makes this region not only one of Mallorca’s most iconic settings, but also a top location for filmmakers. From stone-built villages and meandering roads with panoramic views to secluded coves, the Tramuntana has gifted cinema some of its most unforgettable scenes.
You can see it in…
- Evil Under the Sun (1982), filmed in Deià, Formentera and La Dragonera, a small, uninhabited island facing Sant Elm (Andratx)
- Cloud Atlas (2012), with locations in Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Pareis, one of the most spectacular locations in the entire Tramuntana mountain region.
- L'illa de l'holandès, (2001), with scenes filmed in the Tramuntana and Sa Foradada, a rocky peninsula near Deià.
- The Hunt. Tramuntana (2012), with the mountain range creating the perfect setting for a thriller full of mystery and suspense.
Zafiro Palace Alcúdia is the perfect base for spending a day exploring the villages of the Tramuntana. And if you still have plenty of fuel in the tank, less than an hour away is the famously stunning Torrent de Pareis in Sa Calobra.
Secluded coves in the heart of paradise
The magnetism and beauty of Mallorca’s coves is simply irresistible. Turquoise waters, dramatic rock formations, shifting light and a palpable sense of untouched paradise create a setting that captivates both film crews and seekers of serenity.
These natural backdrops, free of artifice, have framed romantic interludes, thrilling adventures, and scenes crafted for maximum visual impact.
- Cloud Atlas (2012), scenes in untouched coves and cliffs in the north.
- Me Before You (2016), filmed in Port de Sóller.
- Black Jack (1950), with outdoor scenes shot on the north coast of the island.
- Woman of Straw (1964), with Sean Connery and Gina Lollobrigida, with scenes set in Cala Rajada and Portocolom.
Great film locations that you can explore very easily from the Zafiro Son Sabater and Can Ribera by Zafiro, one of our Zafiro Boutique Collection hotels. Both are located at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains and near some of the most famous beaches in northern Mallorca such as Alcúdia, Playa de Muro or Pollensa.
Monuments steeped in history, embraced by nature
Majestic castles, timeworn walls, and cloisters that whisper serenity… Mallorca preserves places where heritage and landscape converge in quiet harmony. From Bellver Castle, sentinel of the Bay of Palma, to the monastery of Valldemossa, renowned for hosting Chopin and George Sand, these storied sites invite reflection and wonder.
Other iconic landmarks include the Sanctuary of Lluc—the island’s spiritual heart—and the medieval walls of Alcudia, encircling one of Mallorca’s best-preserved historic quarters. Add to that stately country manors like Raixa and Alfàbia, with their centuries-old olive groves and gardens that echo a bygone era.
Together, they form a rich cultural tapestry that makes Mallorca a truly unique film location.

Andratx, where your own movie begins
Puerto de Andratx is another of the popular settings for films on the island. Its calm waters and surrounding mountains, the glamour and the cosmopolitan atmosphere have all seduced directors and actors alike.
