Quick guide for first-time visitors to Mallorca

Mallorca & Menorca Guide

Your first time in Mallorca? No need to worry. The first thing you have to know is that Mallorca is not just about beaches. It’s so much more than that. Mallorca is nature, mountains, sun, sand and sea. Mallorca is history, culture and cuisine. And Mallorca is, of course, a land of wonderful people.

The climate is perfect almost all year round and there are so many activities you can do to ensure you enjoy every single minute of your trip. If you are planning a holiday in Mallorca, keep reading and find out everything the island has to offer.

  3. Savour the cuisine
  4. Discover the capital: history and culture
  5. Enjoy the sport!

Explore the beaches

One of the biggest highlights in Mallorca is the beaches. There are huge beaches with white sand that merges with the blue waters and small, hidden coves surrounded by sheer cliffs. An eternal contrast that you must not miss, and renting a car to tour the beaches is the best way to enjoy them.

If you are travelling with your family, we recommend a visit to the beaches at Playa de Muro, Alcudia or Camp de Mar. If you are looking for a dream beach, then you have to see Es Trenc or Cala Mesquida. And if you are dreaming of somewhere more remote and intimate, it has to be Sa Canova, Cala Varques or Cala Murta.

Lose yourself in the wild

The spectacular Sierra de Tramuntana mountains in Mallorca is a natural treasure that also provides shelter to some of the most beautiful villages on the island, such as Valldemossa, Deiá or Sóller. Savour the peace, silence and fresh air as your stroll through the streets of these picturesque villages or take a trek through the mountains all the way to the coast to enjoy the most refreshing swim.

Savour the cuisine

You probably already know that Mallorca is famous for its typical Mediterranean diet, but not many visitors know that its traditional cuisine has remained more or less unchanged over so many centuries and that its flavours are as intense as its history. You must not leave the island without trying delicious dishes you will love such as pa amb oli with sobrasada, the brut rice, lobster stew, Mallorcan frito and tumbet.

And a fantastic choice of pastries and desserts, the most famous of which is the ensaimada, which can be bought plain or with a filling (chocolate, custard, cream...). You will definitely be wanting a second helping, but go easy, the portions are usually quite filling.

Discover the capital: history and culture

We know you want to visit all the beaches and coves, or as many as you possibly can, but you should also save some time for spending a day in the city. You will be surprised by the amount of history contained in its streets and the beauty of some of its most iconic buildings, such as the imposing "La Seu" cathedral overlooking Palma Bay. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town and visit all the museums you can.

You will love: the Almudaina Museum, the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the History Museum in the spectacular Bellver Castle.

Enjoy the sport!

Looking for a perfect holiday combined with your favourite sport? In Mallorca you can do that. Not only is it possible, but the choice of sports activities is also almost endless: cycling, hiking, golf, sailing, tennis ... Plus there’s also the weather, so good that it means you can be active throughout almost the entire year. Mallorca is definitely one of the best destinations for sports.

The island hosts many different competitions. If you are a fan of professional tennis, you can enjoy the Mallorca Open for women in Santa Ponsa. If you prefer the triathlon, take part in Ironman 70.3 in Alcudia. If you’re passionate about cycling, you have the Mallorca 312 race that starts in Playa de Muro with professional cyclists as invited guests or the Mallorca Challenge event for professional cyclists.

With our Zafiro All Inclusive service you can relax and just enjoy everything that Mallorca has to offer with no worries. Our flight + hotel option also allows you to find complete packages with activities included so that you don’t waste a single minute of your trip. Have you already decided when you're coming? We will be here waiting for you!
