Summer Markets in Mallorca

Mallorca & Menorca Guide

In addition to the many events you can enjoy in Mallorca, you can get lost in the various markets and flea markets, we tell you all about it!

One of the pleasures of a trip to Mallorca is a visit to one of the many thriving and lively markets

During the summer in Mallorca in addition to the fairs, festivals and other events that are held over the summer months there are a great number of markets and flea markets to enjoy, which offer a wide variety of goods from traditional food to crafts and jewellery, as well as vintage objects and clothing. Some of the markets are on a fixed day every week all year long whilst some are only on during certain times during the year. It is advisable to check the times and days before deciding which one to visit during your trip to Mallorca   and remember that Thursdays and Saturdays tend to be the liveliest days.

This summer 2017, there are lots of bustling markets, some of them night markets, in the coastal areas as well as the towns in Mallorca where both tourists and residents alike go to have a browse around. A good example of one these bustling night markets is the one at Port d´ Alcudia, not far from the hotel Zafiro Palace Alcudia and the Zafiro Tropic, which is open from June to September, Wednesdays to Saturdays on the promenade between 6.00pm to 10.00pm. There is also another one in Artà, also in the North of Mallorca, which during the summer of 2017 is held every Tuesday in the morning, the artisan part of the market is held in one of the finest municipal gardens in Mallorca.

On the other side of Mallorca in Calvia -near to Palma- in the coastal areas of Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponsa and Peguera, here you will find night markets that are open every evening during May to September from 7.00pm to Midnight selling art, craft, jewellery and clothing. It is very pleasant to browse these markets in the moderate evening temperatures rather than the high daytime temperatures of Mallorca. They are lovely places to stroll around after having a nice dinner at the hotel, they are often quieter than the daytime markets that are held in Mallorca.

If you are staying at the Zafiro Rey Don Jaime hotel in the very popular resort of Santa Ponsa in Mallorca then you are in luck, because the night market of Santa Ponsa is located just in front of the hotel. Guests staying in the Zafiro Palmanova and the Zafiro Palace Palmanova can also enjoy the proximity of these special markets which radiate the same great atmosphere as the daytime markets on the island selling lovely gifts to buy for friends or to treat yourself. The seaside resort of Cala Rajada, in Capdepera, also has its own summer night market, whose 2017 opening times are 6.00pm to 11.00pm and is ideally situated if you are staying at the Zafiro Cala Mesquida. Elsewhere in Mallorca, there are plenty other markets in summer normally at their busiest Thursdays and Saturdays such as Cala Pi or S’Estanyol, Llucmajor,. Porto Cristo and S'Illot, which are in the municipality of Manacor.

In Sa Coma, Sant Llorenç; Porto Colom and Cala Ferrera, which are in Felanitx; in Can Picafort, Son Serra de Marina and Playa de Muro, which are part of Santa Margalida; in Cala Egos, Cala d'Or, Cala Portopetro and Cala Figuera, which are in Santanyi.  We can even add to the list the market in Colonia de Sant Jordi, which opens on Wednesday afternoons. In addition to the markets and fairs in towns such as Alcúdia, Sóller, Manacor, Llucmajor, or Sant Llorenç, one must not forget the artisan craft markets in Palma de Mallorca, which are spread across the city, from the Plaça Mayor - which closes on a Sunday –  to the gardens of   S'hort des Rei and then onto the Paseo Sagrera, which are very lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and of course not forgetting the popular night market at la plaza de las Maravillas in Playa De Palma. And, if you want to visit a local market in Palma, you can choose between S' Olivier, Sant Catalina or Pere Garau.

The latter retains a more traditional character selling local produce and it is here you will find the local residents doing their shopping, Pere Garau opens all week except Sundays, and is at its busiest on Thursdays and Saturdays, which is when farmers of Mallorca turn up; It is worth taking note of these days in your agenda for Mallorca. Most visitors to Palma de Mallorca tend to visit at least one of its local markets, which are very busy and are great places to visit and soak up the local atmosphere, so for your trip to Palma de Mallorca or any other part of Mallorca in 2017 keep a note in your agenda of when the local markets, fairs and festivals are held so in that way you won’t miss them.
