Patrick Lange: “Mallorca is a paradise for triathletes”
For three-time IRONMAN world champion Patrick Lange, the answer is clear: challenging climbs, excellent roads and ideal training conditions.
Every year, Patrick Lange returns to Mallorca to prepare for his most important competitions. The island provides the perfect balance between training volume and intensity, along with an inspiring environment to push his limits and reach new goals.
The triathlete has already kicked off his season with two intensive training camps in Mallorca, once again choosing Zafiro Palace Alcudia, one of the official hotels for IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca, as his refuge for training, recovery and focusing on his next big challenges.

What makes Mallorca a magnet for so many professional triathletes?
Patrick Lange has Mallorca embedded in his sporting DNA. He has tested his skills and limits more than thirty times in its waters, roads and mountains! Two or three times a year, he leaves behind the grey skies of Austria and returns to his “home” in the Mediterranean to train.
Swim, bike, run. On this island, he has spent years refining his endurance and honing the specific intensity required for each discipline.
“It’s definitely one of my favourite destinations. Not only because of the wide range of different types of terrain, but also because of the fantastic training environment.”, he tells us.
How is a typical training day for Patrick Lange in Mallorca?
“Mornings usually start with a swimming session. Afterwards, we head out on the bikes along some of the island’s most iconic roads”, he explains.
Among the numerous cycling routes offered by the island, his undisputed favourite is the ride from Alcudia to Sa Calobra. “It’s one of those routes that never gets boring, no matter how many times you ride it.” With breathtaking scenery and a very demanding climb, it’s a challenge that keeps calling him back.
“Afternoons bring a mix of running, strength training and mobility exercises in the gym. I strive for a balance between volume and intensity”, he adds. Each training session in Mallorca is a testament to his dedication, perseverance and pursuit of excellence.
The next big challenges
Lange has two key events on the horizon: IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside and the prestigious IRONMAN Texas, both taking place in April.
The first is a middle-distance event that will be a test of his physical fitness, while the second is a full-distance event that will be an opportunity to reaffirm why he remains one of the greats of triathlon.
As he continues on this path to new successes, Lange acknowledges both his talent and his ability to evolve. In recent years, he has refined his race strategy and significantly improved his cycling performance - key factors that helped him retain his world title.
“My team has been a fundamental support in this entire process, from the coaches to all the support staff. Consistency in training and unwavering self-belief have also been crucial.”
Now, with a smarter approach to competition and improved energy management, he pushes harder with every kilometre, solidifying his status as one of the sport’s elite.
Training and rest
For a top athlete like Patrick Lange, recovery is just as important as the training itself. That's why he always seeks out first-class facilities for both competitions and training camps, providing the perfect balance of comfort, nutrition and environment to support his rigorous preparation.
Zafiro Hotels is proud that Patrick Lange has found his “home” in Mallorca at the Zafiro Palace Alcudia. Our 5-star hotel has a perfect location for enjoying the Serra de Tramuntana mountains and the Mediterranean, and is also near numerous excellent cycling routes. “The facilities have everything I need for both training and recovery, and being so close to some of the best cycling routes on the island makes it the perfect base for training. But the best part is the hospitality: the hotel team is amazing! It feels like family here, like it’s my second home. “It’s always such a pleasure to stay here!” he tells us.
Patrick explains that one of the main reasons why he always returns to Zafiro Palace Alcudia is its fantastic sports facilities, including a cycling station, gym, swimming pools, spa area, and more. But he also emphasises that what really makes all the difference is the dedication and the attention he receives from the hotel team.
