Summer is here, bringing along with it all of the traditional festivals held by towns and villages in Mallorca, full of music, activities and fun for all ages.
Today, Zafiro Hotels is going to recommend one in particular: the festival in Can Picafort from the 2nd to the 18th of August to honour the Virgin of the Assumption, or Mare de Deu d'Agost as it is known in Mallorca. The reason? Very simple. It’s a festival full of events, competitions and traditions to enjoy with the family and an opportunity to combine a holiday with the chance to experience something unique and unforgettable.
Can Picafort is a coastal town in Alcudia Bay which has everything you need for a great holiday, particularly in the middle of August during the two weeks that the town celebrates its patron saint festival. And what is it that makes this festival so special? Well, the secret is in the variety. There’s tennis, races for residents and visitors, volleyball, aquagym on the beach, craft workshops, flea markets, concerts and parties such as the popular "HOLI family party" or "Flower Power party".
There’s something interesting to do every day, but at Zafiro Hotels we should warn you there’s one day that you really must not miss: the 15th of August, the day in which the cry goes out for “DUCKS TO THE WATER!”, hailing the beginning of one of the most long-awaited and enjoyable festival moments. Thousands of rubber ducks are launched from boats near the shore, all of them with their own number. The objective of participants is to jump into the water and collect as many ducks as they can, as some of them come with a prize! This is a day when everybody has a great laugh, whatever their age. And then the day ends with a brilliant firework display at midnight.
